i had planned a pub crawl for me, pa and huw; the tavern inn at dudley, then the old swan at netherton, followed by the vine (bull and bladder) at brierley hill (the bathams tap), the fountain at lower gornal and the beacon at sedgley; however, we got stuck at the old swan, where tim the landlord gave us an impromptu tour of the building, including the brewery;

by the time we left, it was too late to attempt the vine or the fountain, so we settled for some sarah hughes at the beacon, where there was a mint girl behind the bar, with shoulder-length dark hair and a t-shirt; and then a curry at a place we hadn't tried, the habib in queen street
