i had arrived somewhat before 08:30BST, i suppose; there were a few people about, but very little light; i had a good walk about both parts of the lake, starting at the right hand end; i wanted to see what birds would be available to photograph later;

as i walked, i was startled by the screams of 3 high school girls, who were swinging on the swings in the play area; at that lightless time of day, it seemed a bit surreal; i resumed my circuit; after a while, i looked back again; the girls had moved to the roundabout, which lay in a rare shaft of light; it could have made a good photograph, but i was too far around the lake by then;

a gaunt, boozy russian with bad teeth and plastic shades approached and put his arm around me; he informed me that the `bad' were praising god; eventually it emerged that he meant the `birds'; he showed me a plastic toy bullet, and explained that he had been shot 27 times in afghanistan, but that `the man in the sky' had sent 3 angels to protect him;

`where are you from?'; `cardiff'; `the first time i came to the uk, in 1996, i visited margate'; okay; that sort of rhymes with cardiff, but it's nowhere close; but then perhaps everywhere is close together from a russian perspective

having entered west park by the south gate, i noticed a stereotypical soccer dad giving his child some tuition on the right hand side of the central path; but the child was a 13-year-old girl and they were asian; not something i had seen before; but he really sounded the part; `what are you doing?'; `get the basics right; never mind the fancy stuff'; they were about 25 metres apart; she appeared to have good balance and a good strike; but i think he was trying to get her to trap the ball; something to do with the first touch anyway

i was attracted to this bin by the fact that no-one had attempted to close it or replace the bag; it has always been an annoying object; too narrow to accommodate anything substantial; there are rumours of a new kitchen, so i thought i'd capture what will probably be this bin's finest hour; and it's not often that i use the flash, so that's another novelty; it's been a gloomy morning

i got a good vibe from my dreams this morning; i don't remember any specifics, except that the house was massive with tall rooms and in the country, perhaps by the sea; the personnel were like characters from a murder mystery, though the mood was not ugly; there were 1930s fashions and some interesting interactions; i woke in a good frame of mind

rf mains adapter; not available any more; don't know why; silly safety regulations or something; mains network adapters; household mains not balanced or screened; radiates like buggery; hammers the swl down the road; doesn't affect ham bands, but anywhere between 2.3 and 28 mhz is susceptible; affected this band; complained to ofcom and bt headquarters; local bt place will give you a load of bullshit; had 2 removed; 1 to go; okay until someone else gets one of the damn things

tried to give my old computer to charity; noisy integral power supply in printer; keep it switched off; my transmission gets into nothing in the house; 10m affects only one thing; ferrite chokes fixed them; 1990 was the last complainant; turned out to be a radio ham; now't as queer as folk; threatened me with a spectrum analyser at the door; i said `would you like to see mine?'

new dream; at an outdoor table on some decking, with the water (the sea, i suppose) to my left; a secluded wharf, small, but plenty of space outside; a few eateries; something like penarth marina, but it wasn't identifiable as such, and didn't feel like it;

a mile or two inland, a tall building was struck by lightning, and remained struck by multiple discharges, some simultaneous, giving the appearance of thicker lightning, and non-stop; the building took quite a beating;

and then i was inside the building, walking up the staircase amidst the devastation; the structure was basically okay, but there were mangled filing cabinets and the like

i think it was yesterday that i dreamed of overlooking the sea with bodie and doyle; we seemed to be on a mission, armed with rifles and the like; we were halfway up a cliff with numerous cultivated paths, like balconies on a tower block;

perhaps it was the morning before that i dreamed of scaring a mouse in the kitchen; gosh; the kitchen was true to life; such authenticity doesn't occur very often; it entered from the sitting room, then ran under me; i lifted myself off the floor, between cupboard and stove, to allow it to pass; and then i made some sudden movements, to scare it; and then i thought i had killed it with a heart attack, but it soon started moving again and i was glad;

i suppose the mouse was the one that goes about downstairs; i had made it jump as i watched television; the rugby on friday evening, i suppose

picked up some soap, toothpaste and herbal infusions from rosemary's, and then some pasta, onions, garlic and jam from sainsbury's; there had been a lot of long-limbed black boys and girls by the newspaper stand on my way out, blocking the way; some girls trailed out in my wake; as i approached the pedestrian crossing, my peripheral vision noticed an animal darting from the bush on my right to the bush on my left; perhaps it was a squirrel; and then a glorious girlie scream went up from the 2 or 3 girls behind me; `did you see that?'; `a rat, and it was this big!'; great; i could have come home empty-handed and the trip would still have been worthwhile

listening to jazz on the voice of russia world service, after the first moscow mailbag i'd heard in years; medium wave; not the same old geezer, but there was a quick burst of the old music at the top of the show;

a while before that, i had woken from a dream about cardiff; i was in a student house in pontcanna; girls; mobile phones; eventually, a phone call from an unusually slow jo, who was apparently trying to tell me something about gramps; i heard `cramps' at the end and, realising that he must be ill, woke up;

hey; the news reader speaks british english; that's nice
